the journey

Road to Opening Day

The build is underway! Follow along as five courts, a mezzanine lounge, and a whole new Ballard gathering place come to life.

From fabric aisles to pickleball courts

The transformation is underway. The old suspended ceiling and fluorescent fixtures have been removed, opening up the space above the future courts.

Removing the ceiling also revealed the building’s beautiful wood glulam roof beams, hidden above the ceiling tiles since 1968. We’ve deliberately left them unpainted, preserving their natural warmth and character against the freshly painted matte black overhead structure.

Next up: lighting designed and positioned for pickleball, along with wall painting, floor preparation, and work on the entry, walkways, and seating areas.

Our parking garage is open

The parking garage beneath the future courts is now open for paid public parking, bringing a long-closed neighborhood resource back into use.

With a new parking system and 10 security cameras in operation, it’s a convenient option for your next visit to downtown Ballard—whether you’re shopping, meeting friends for dinner, or exploring the neighborhood.

Pat Gilbrough, Owner & Founder

the heart of it

Built By a neighbor

Pat has called Ballard home for more than 30 years – as a neighbor and a local business owner. For the past decade, his daily walks took him past the old JoAnn Fabrics building, where he saw an opportunity to bring new life to a familiar space and contribute to the vitality of the Ballard Commons Park neighborhood.

When Pat caught the pickleball bug, that possibility became a vision. Here was a game that brought people together, got them moving, and turned strangers into friends, and here was a building ready for its next chapter.

Today, that vision is taking shape as Ballard Pickleball Club: a modern indoor club with five courts, a mezzanine lounge, and welcoming spaces to gather before and after a game. The project also brings the building’s parking garage back into use for the first time since 1999, providing clean, secure parking for club members and the surrounding neighborhood.

At the heart of it all is Pat’s belief that everyone should have a place to play and belong. For someone picking up a paddle for the first time, BPC will offer a welcoming introduction to the game. For experienced and competitive players, it will be a home to keep growing, find great matches, and build lasting friendships.

Pat’s vision is simple: meet people where they are, help them strengthen their game, and bring Ballard closer together – one game at a time.

BPC has five indoor pickleball courts.

Our planned hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. We expect to extend those hours as membership grows.

A parking garage is located directly beneath the club in the same building and is now open for paid public parking, even while construction continues upstairs. There are many other parking lots within a block of the club in addition to on street parking. About 2 to 3 blocks north of the club is free parking in the residential areas.

Garage parking costs $4 per hour. Members can also purchase a $35 monthly parking permit, which covers up to 2½ hours of parking whenever they have a booking at the club.

Yes. We’ll limit membership to help ensure members have reliable access to courts and a good booking experience.
